China has played a m 上海千花网ore active role in global

health governance. The country participates in all of the United Nations’ specialized bodies r

上海千花网elating to health-including WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNAIDS-and other multilateral health forums.

Moreod in the government’s 2017 White Paper on Public Health, China is now energetically, “t

aking part in the formulation of international medical and health rules”. In recent years, China has attended and 上海千花网女神会所

or hosted numerous regional and global summits in an effort to boost cooperation and combat disease. Many fo

上海千花网cus on using the Belt and Road Initiative to improve global health. And often overlooked are Beijing’s efforts to est

ablish international standards on products related to global health such as food additives and pesticide residues.

With respect to health information exchange, China has much to share with the world-particularly knowledge about its 上海千花网女神会所

spectacular health care accomplishments. For example, more than 95 percent of China’s population no

上海千花网w enjoys basic health care coverage. And life expectancy has climbed to 76.7 years compared with 35 years in the 1940s.

China’s successes in controlling tropical disease, reducing infant mortality, contai

ning malaria and schistosomiasis, and battling deadly infectious diseases (particularly tuberculosis) are truly re 上海千花网女神会所

markable and deserving of study as valuable lessons for the global community. Not surprisingly, Chinese univ

上海千花网ersities are accelerating research in health policy and expanding cooperative programs with foreign universities.

Unfortunately, however, some cooperative programs in the U

S have fallen victim to the “anti-China hysteria” that has swept parts of Washington. M 上海千花网女神会所

pkins University-have been pressured by the US National Institute for Health to scuttle exchange programs

When US President Don上海千花网p assumed office in Jan

anuary 2017, he pledged GDP growth at 4 percent. More recently, he projected

上海千花网女神会所US growth at 3 percent. Yet analysts estimate US growth this year at 2.5 percent or less. Quali

tative assessments suggest deterioration, as the growth of domestic demand is slumping.

Worse, US GDP growth forecasts for 2020 indicate softening to 1.8 per上海千花网

cent, possibly a (near-recession) slowdown-especially if trade and tech wars still

escalate. In the absence of negative surprises, China’s GDP growth is lik

上海千花网ely to stay within the target of 6.2 percent in 2019 and possibly in 2020 as well, with

supportive fiscal and monetary conditions. US tariff wars are likely to penalize the Chinese economy by less

上海千花网女神会所than 0.5 percent of GDP, which could be offset by just a modest depreciation of the renminbi.

If recent policy mistakes in the White House prevail, slower growth in i

nvestment spending, rising concern for continued trade wars and destabilizing geopolitics are likely to foster downside上海千花网

risks in global economic prospects, as risks for further downgrades morph into actual realities.

Prudent monetary polic上海千花网e, sle’s Bank of Chi

China will maintain a prudent monetary policy in the year’s second half, with potential policy adjustments depending mainly on

the domestic economic situation and price levels, a senior central bank official said on Friday.上海千花网女神会所

Having noticed the recent monetary easing in some foreign central banks and the United States Fe

上海千花网女神会所deral Reserve’s strong message that it will make a cut later in the policy rate, the Chinese centra

l bank has decided not to change its monetary policy stance, while continually reducing the actual financing costs o

f enterprises, said Sun Guofeng, head of the monetary policy department of the People’s Bank of China, the central bank.上海千花网

“In the second half, we will maintain the liquidity at a reasonably ample level through leveraging

diversified tools and strengthening macroeconomic policy coordination,” said Sun, adding that mo

derate money supply growth can support the country’s high-quality economic growth.上海千花网

Sun made the remark after the central bank released major financial da

ta on Friday. The broad money supply, or M2, increased by 8.5 percent by the end of June

上海千花网女神会所from a year earlier. The growth rate had remained unchanged for three consecutive months starting in April.

Chinese banks issued yuan-denominated loans of 9.67 trillion yuan ($1.41 trillion) in the first six month

s, and 1.66 trillion yuan was newly extended in June, up from 1.18 trillion yuan in May, the PBOC said.上海千花网

Total social financing, a broad measure of credit and liquidity in the economy, increased by 13.23 trillion yuan in the firs

上海千花网女神会所t half, compared with an increase of 10.05 trillion yuan in the same period last year, officials said.

“Rapid growth of total social financing proved that the financial se

ctor is enhancing support for the real economy,” said Ruan Jianhong, head of the central ba上海千花网

nk’s Statistics and Analysis Department, at a Friday news conference.

上海千花网女神会所The RMB, compared with some other major currencies, has performe

d well in the first half, and its current exchange rate is basically in line with the economic fou

ndation, as the International Monetary Fund determined recently, according to Sun.上海千花网女神会所

“In the future, the market will play a decisive role in determining the RMB exchange rate, and we will take macro-pruden

t measures when it is necessary to maintain the exchange rate at a stable and reasonable equilibrium,” Sun added.

More efforts are needed from Chinese companies to explore the potential of massive data as mounting firms globally own “d

上海千花网女神会所ark data” and very few know how to use it, an industry insider said during the three-day Annual Meeting of the New Ch

ampions 2019, also known as Summer Davos, which ended Wednesday in Dalian, Liaoning province.

“Many companies or organizations didn’t fully realize the potential of “da

rk data”, which refers to all the unknown and untapped data generated by an org上海千花网女神会所

anization’s systems, devices and interactions”, said Song Haiyan, senior vice-president and general manager of se

“The chaos of being unable to deal with such data creates tremendous opportu

nities for motivated companies to learn, as well as for Splunk to empower them to use it,” she said.上海千花网女神会所

Another challenge for companies using data is that they tend to simply collect d

ata but do not use it to predict something that they don’t even know, she added.

上海千花网女神会所In the wake of such problems, Song said Splunk has integrated some premium solutions, including artificial int

“I am glad to see that here in China, companies are putting the use of AI into a higher-than-ever role in their b

In the 1950s, the Amer 上海千花网try was seen as the

e prototype of how business should be run. Car company executives were seen as the most capable manage

上海千花网品茶微信rs. In 1953, president Eisenhower chose Charles Wilson, known as “engine Charlie,” to be his Secretary of Defense.

Then, in 1961, president Kennedy chose Ford president Robert McNamara for the same position. (Of course, McNamara’s incredible mismanagement of the war in Vietnam reduced any confidence that car company executives were especially competent.)

By the late 1960s, the “big three “car companies in the US – General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler – formed a virtual oligopoly and turned lazy. 上海千花网

I remember American cars my father bought in these years often overheating and breaking down by the side of the road. Dad would have to stay by the car with my m

other and sisters while I walked a long way to find a service station and arrange a tow. (This was long before mobile phones.) 上海千花网品茶微信

So, American consumers were ready for more competitive Japanese-made cars, which had consistently high

er quality, to enter the market. My father switched to Japanese cars in the 1970s, and never bought another American-made car. 上海千花网

American car companies saw their profits fall and were not able to pay their workers t

he very high wages made possible by a closed, non-competitive market. The US government responded by

上海千花网品茶微信imposing quotas on the import of Japanese cars and by pushing Japan to rapidly raise the value of the yen.

Obviously, there was a conflict. American consumers benefitted from the cheaper, better cars while workers at the big three saw their jobs become less secure and the

ir wages fall. Fortunately, the protection was only partial and temporary, so the competition eventually forced US carmakers to improve.

Competition is at the heart of the current disputes over globalization and technology. On net, the spread of econo 上海千花网品茶微信

mic opportunities around the world has been a great boon. Many products are more widely and cheaply available than ever before.

Many countries, including China and India, have greatly reduced poverty and given opportunities to their people that would have been undreamed of by earlier ge 上海千花网

nerations. American and Western European companies and consumers have greatly benefitted.

But nobody really likes competition against themselves. Most people like some degree of stability and protection. A worker w

ho has put in 20 or 30 years in an industry will definitely feel that it is unfair to have to move to a much lower-pa

ying service job. A company facing new competitors will try to convince its home government to stop the competition.

Americans saw many benefits from the second globalization period. As Japanese and, later Chinese, manufacturers began to export t

o the US, many consumer goods became a lot cheaper in US stores. Many American companies made good profits by exporting t

o the newly open markets or by outsourcing manufacturing to cheaper and/or better factories outside the US.

Bipartisan political support for China bashing in the savings-shor

t US threatens to turn a trade war into a protracted and destructive economic cold war, Roach said.

“Now, more than ever, a fragile world is in desperate need of political will and wisdom,” he said.
